Cholestrol Problems - Statins or No Statins?
January 23, 2008
There is an excellent article I just read on this subject, one that everyone should read, consider wisely and take charge of their own health. Too often drugs are prescribed without the patient being aware not only of the potential side effects, but of the actual benefit, nominal benefit or lack of benefit that these medications prescribe.
I am not a doctor, nor do I profess to be. However, I am a firm believer in taking a pro-active role in our own health and weighing all options before making an informed decision.
Read this article, it is long but very informative!

I had high cholesterol. I was perscribed Lipator and told by my doctor to see him again in four months. I changed my eating habits, ate oatmeal every morning, walked more regularly and longer, and lost 28 pounds. When I saw by doctor he said, “You haven’t been taking the Lipator have you?” I said,”No, I had not; how did you know?” The doc said Lipator lowers both good and bad cholesterol. My good had gone up six points and my bad had gone down 53 points - No Lipator.

Cholestrol is one health issue where numerous books and articles provide information but yet, certain fine points are forgotten. We came across this article that says that when the body is under stress, the body itself releases cholestrol into the blood. The idea is to use the cholestrol as fuel to generate energy that can be used to tackle the stress. Cholestrol levels could rise dangerously under conditions where the generated cholestrol is not used up. You should read more on this at this link: http://www.health.food-recipe-cooking.com/stress-and-cholestrol-01.htm
